Sling’s Top Ten
Ever wonder which shows are being place-shifted the most using Sling Media’s platform?
Well, wonder no more. Sling Media used this week’s International CES to springboard a weekly list showing which live sporting events (historically a popular category for video-slinging) and TV shows were place-shifted the most using the company’s stand-alone Slingboxes sold at retail and through pay-TV service providers, including Dish’s Hopper with Sling HD-DVRs.
Sling Media said it will post its weekly rankings each Monday on its blog. Here’s the top ten from last week (Dec. 29, 2013-Jan. 4, 2014:
Sporting events:
- San Diego Chargers vs. Cincinnati Bengals
- Philadelphia Eagles vs. Dallas Cowboys
- Holiday Bowl
- Sugar Bowl
- ESPN Sportscenter
- Rose Bowl
- Orange Bowl
- Belk Bowl
- Chicago Bears vs. Green Bay Packers
- Compass Bowl
TV Shows:
- Spongebob Squarepants
- The Big Bang Theory
- Law & Order: Special Victims Unit
- Today
- The Walking Dead
- Breaking Bad
- Pawn Stars
- NCIS
- Duck Dynasty
- Family Guy
Also this week, Sling Media published an infographic that presents a few new usage factoids:
- This distance content slinged per week is 2.5 billion miles.
- Consumers watch their Slingboxes on a big screen about 7.23 hours per week.
The company also identified where it witnessed usage spikes from August through December. Unsurprisingly, many were tied to sporting events, including the start of the college football season and NFL regular season, the Thanksgiving NFL games, and the Christmas day NBA games. In another nod to sports nuts, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays were the most sling-filled days of the week.
