Basketball Hall of Famer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar paid a surprise visit to the University of the Pacific’s men’s basketball team, and mtvU’s cameras were there.
MTV Networks’ 24-hour college network will debut the installment of Stand In featuring Abdul-Jabbar Monday at noon (EST) and repeat it throughout the week.
Abdul-Jabbar provided his own encouraging words to the team for the upcoming NCAA Tournament and talked about his experience as a three-time NCAA national champion.
The former National Basketball Association great became the latest addition to mtvU’s Stand In roster, which has also included: music mogul Russell Simmons and Reverend Run, who visited the African American Business Student Alliance at the University of Colorado at Denver to provide their perspectives on business marketing; Nas and his father, Olu Dara, who taught an improvisational jazz class at Morehouse College; Marilyn Manson, who taught an “Art & Society” class at Temple University; Snoop Dogg, who stood in as coach for the University of Southern California football team; Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.), who taught an “American Foreign Policy” class at the University of New Hampshire; Pulitzer Prize-winning author Frank McCourt, who taught a surprise creative-writing class at SUNY Stony Brook in Long Island, N.Y.; and The Rev. Jesse Jackson, who taught a surprise class on racism and the law at Spelman College in Atlanta.
