Cloud video specialist ActiveVideo has promoted Ronald Brockmann to chief technology officer, filling a gap that’s been open since last May, when ex-CTO John Callahan departed to join Canadian MSO Rogers Communications as vice president of next generation video (Callahan left Rogers earlier this year).
Brockmann joined San Jose, Calif.-based ActiveVideo in 2009 when it acquired Avinity Systems, a Netherlands-based provider of tools for TV service providers to delivery Web content. Before Avinity, Brockmann was the CTO and a co-founder of a Wi-Fi company called No Wires Needed.
Brockmann, who started off as ActiveVideo's managing director for Europe, has played a key role in developing CloudTV H5, a cloud-based platform that renders user interfaces in HTML 5 for set-tops, tablets, smartphones and other types of screens.
Brockmann has “been our go-to guy for innovation since we acquired his company,” ActiveVideo president and CEO Jeff Miller said in a blog post announcing the promotion.
ActiveVideo customers include Cablevision Systems, Ziggo in the Netherlands and Oceanic Time Warner Cable. Comcast is testing ActiveVideo’s CloudTV platform in Chattanooga, Tenn. ActiveVideo is also powering the interface for Net2TV, a virtual service provider.
