Aurora Networks, a privately held provider of optical-transport products to cable operators, on Monday announced its first acquisition: GoBackTV, a provider of digital video headend solutions and edge QAMs.
Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. GoBackTV, based in Menlo Park, Calif., has approximately 20 employees, who will be moved to Aurora's headquarters in Santa Clara. Aurora expects the companies to be fully combined within two months.
The deal comes after Aurora in October 2010 hired Scott Weinstein as vice president of new business development. Weinstein previously was with Piper Jaffray & Co., where he was a managing director in the Technology, Media and Telecommunications Group.
Aurora noted in a statement that it's "primed to make additional acquisitions to realize incremental growth."
"GoBackTV fills expertise in evolving areas that represent timely opportunities for Aurora Networks to expand its technology in line with the needs of cable operators," Aurora chairman and CEO Guy Sucharczuk said in a statement. "We are using this acquisition to increase our technology base enabling us to expand the breadth of our product lines, thus maintaining our lead as the cable operator's main partner to build future-proof networks."
Aurora said it plans to strategically integrate technologies from GoBackTV's current product line of headend and edge solutions into its current product line.
Investors in Aurora include Castile Ventures, Fuse Capital, The Sprout Group and TA Associates.
