'Breaking Bad,' 'Modern Family' Reign Again At Emmys
AMC’s Breaking Bad is gone, but it certainly never will be forgotten as Vince Gilligan’s crystal meth series captured a second straight best drama Emmy.
On the comedy side, ABC’s Modern Family won for the fifth consecutive year, matching Frasier’s run on NBC from 1994-98.
Breaking Bad’s final season also proved a boon to its top characters, as Bryan Cranston won his fourth best drama actor for his inimitable Walter White, adding a statue to three he garnered from 2008 to 2010.
His partner in crime and some remorse, Jesse Pinkman, earned Aaron Paul a third supporting actor Emmy, while Anna Gunn won her second consecutive supporting actress trophy as White’s wife, Skylar.
Moira Walley-Beckett also won for outstanding writing in a drama series for “Ozymandias,”which many of the show’s fans consider to be its crowning episode.
Overall including Creative Awards, Breaking Bad captured six Emmys, second only to the seven collected by PBS miniseries Sherlock: His Last Vow. HBO’s True Detective won five awards, followed by Fx’s American Horror Story: Coven, National Geographic Channel’s COSMOS: A SpaceTime Odyssey and HBO’s Game Of Thrones, all with four.
HBO, which set the pace with 99 nominations, took the lion’s share of Emmy Awards with 19, followed by CBS and PBS with 11 and NBC with 10.
