Cable Center Names Brian Lamb 2013 Bresnan Award Recipient
The Cable Center announced today that Brian Lamb has been named the 2013 Bresnan Ethics in Business Award recipient. Lamb will be presented the industry award, honoring the late William J. Bresnan, founder and chairman of Bresnan Communications and long-time chairman of the board of The Cable Center, at the Cable Hall of Fame Celebration, June 10 at The Ronald Reagan Building in Washington, DC, in conjunction with The Cable Show 2013.
Lamb, along with 22 cable executives, founded C-SPAN in 1979, serving as chief executive officer until he stepped down in 2012 to become its executive chairman of the board. Prior to launching C-SPAN, Lamb held various communications roles, including White House telecommunications policy staffer and Washington bureau chief for Cablevision magazine.
He also served in the United States Navy for four years. Over the course of his career, Lamb has received numerous honors and awards, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the National Humanities Medal. He was inducted into the Cable Hall of Fame in 2000.
“I will gladly accept the Bresnan Ethics in Business Award on behalf of the C-SPAN Networks for one big reason: Bill Bresnan. He was a fabulous person whose principals we’ve tried to follow,” Lamb said in a statement. “Bill was a wonderful ally for C-SPAN and a colleague in the cable industry and I will always admire his dedication to building a company based on strong ideals and ethics.”
“Brian’s innovative leadership has made him one of the most well-respected and treasured members of the cable industry,” said Time Warner Cable chairman and CEO and chairman of the Bresnan Award selection committee in a statement. “With the mission of providing access to the political process, he built C-SPAN into a cable industry mainstay. He is deeply committed to educating the public about how our government works and dedicated to many philanthropic endeavors. We are delighted to honor him with the Bresnan Ethics in Business Award.”
The Bresnan Ethics in Business award was created to honor outstanding men and women in the cable industry who best exemplify Bill Bresnan’s longstanding commitment to ethics in business. Awardees represent the ideals upheld by Bill Bresnan, including continually demonstrating ethical leadership qualities, doing what’s right in the face of adversity, even when it is unpopular, incorporating doing what’s right in everyday life, and demonstrating societal, community and philanthropic engagement. An exhibit honoring the award recipients is on permanent display at The Cable Center.
“It is a real honor to present Brian with this year’s Bresnan Ethics in Business Award,” said Cable Center CEO Larry Satkowiak in a statement. “Brian’s career shows us that one person can make a difference. His vision, personal integrity, and quiet strength set the standard for straightforward political reporting that should be considered a gift to the world.”
