Cable One Expands 1-Gig Rollout
Cable One has launched 1-Gig broadband in Globe and Miami, Ariz., as the MSO pushes ahead with a plan to offer gigabit residential service across most of its markets by the end of 2016.
The offering, called GigaONE, currently relies on DOCSIS 3.0 technology and modems that can bond up to 32 6-MHz-wide downstream channels.
GigaONE, which pairs a 1 Gbps downstream with an upstream that maxes out at 50 Mbps, sells for $175 per month and includes the MSO’s 500 Gigabyte data plan. Cable One’s FAQ for GigaONE notes that additional data plans up to 2 terabytes are available.
In 2013, Cable ONE eliminated a policy that charged extra when customers exceeded their monthly data usage caps. In its place is an “excessive use” policy that encourages customers to switch to a higher level of service if they exceed their data plan three or more times in a rolling 12-month period.
"GigaONE will support the technology needs of the communities we serve, now and in the future," Joe Felbab, VP of marketing for Cable One, said in a statement. "We are excited to be able to offer Gigabit service to nearly 1.5 million homes in the markets we serve."
Cable One noted that it has invested more than $500 million over the past five years on network upgrades and enhancements.
Other recent GigaONE launched include Anniston, Ala.; and Boise and Western Idaho.
