Cable Television Laboratories Inc. signed an agreement with European counterpart EuroCableLabs to help align cable-technology development on both sides of the pond.
Under the agreement, the EuroCableLabs consortium will have access to the Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification and PacketCable specifications and test plans. EuroCableLabs will also have access to CableLabs’ acceptance and compliance test plans used in the certification and qualification of new products.
The pact will help to align development of broadband Internet and multimedia services in North America and Europe -- a particularly useful strategy for major electronics manufacturers that are active in both markets.
"World specifications in cable technology will help the cable industry to develop compelling new services faster and cheaper,” said Niels-Kristian Hersoug, managing director of EuroCableLabs.
“EuroCableLabs' and CableLabs' new agreement is an important step toward building a truly international approach to achieving operational interoperability and commonality of cable technology," he added.
