Cable Television Laboratories announced separate agreements with UpdateLogic and Funai Electric Tuesday.
Under terms of the former pact, the cable industry will work with UpdateLogic to enable in-band distribution of software updates over cable networks, allowing them to be delivered to digital-cable devices, including digital-television sets.
The updates are transmitted as data in-band within PBS channels across the United States.
As for Funai, the Japanese set-top manufacturer can now implement OpenCable host specifications, which enable the development and marketing of two-way interactive digital products that run OpenCable Application Platform (OCAP) middleware.
The two-way agreement is called the CableCARD Host Interface Licensing Agreement (CHILA), CableLabs said.
