Cablevision in Middle of Political Tiff

Following a lawsuit threat, Cablevision Systems Corp. pulled Republican Party commercials in Nassau County, N.Y., Newsday
reported.

The Republican commercials had claimed that county Democrats raised taxes 57% and increased spending by $500 million.

The Nassau Democratic Party threatened to sue the cable operator for airing "false and derogatory" statements, Newsday
reported.

Republicans told the newspaper Tuesday that Cablevision gave in without investigating their "proof," and Republican chairman Joseph Mondello accused Democrats of using "bully tactics."

But Democratic chairman Jay Jacobs told Newsday
Cablevision's action proved that the Republican claims were false.

A spokesman for Cablevision would only say that specific actions "are between our advertising client and us."
