Cablevision Systems’ Optimum Online Boost premium-tier Internet customers now have access to static-Internet-protocol Internet addresses.
Static IP allows businesses to host applications and services that can be accessed from remote locations -- such as e-mail servers and e-commerce capabilities -- through the same customer-specific IP address, the company said, adding that a static IP address becomes a computer's permanent address on the Internet and allows it to locate and talk to other computers across the Web.
