Cartoon to Kids: Help Tsunami Victims

Cartoon Network is creating an integrated public-service-announcement program to provide information on how young people can help victims of the tsunami in Southeast Asia.

The PSA campaign will be based on former Supertramp member Roger Hodgson’s “Give a Little Bit,” and a new version of the song, produced and arranged by John Fields, will be performed by Five for Fighting's John Ondrasik and UNICEF ambassadors Clay Aiken and India.Arie.

Viewers will be directed to an independent Web site designed specifically for the campaign (www.kidshelpout.org), which will highlight the positive impact of the tsunami-relief efforts. The site will also direct them to UNICEF for further information, to make contributions and to learn how kids can make a difference regardless of their ability to donate.

The campaign will begin airing domestically Wednesday and internationally shortly thereafter.

"What has struck me most about this monumental disaster is that the children of Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India and other Asian countries within the region were both initially and still remain the single group most affected by the impact and aftermath of the Dec. 26 tsunami," Cartoon Network Worldwide executive vice president and general manager Jim Samples said in a prepared statement.

"We wanted to communicate appropriately to our young audience the positive aspects of the global relief effort now under way,” he added. “Kids, too, can play an active role in meeting this challenge."
