Charter Communications has announced the launch of Charter our Community, its first national philanthropic program, which aims to improve 25,000 unhealthy or unsafe homes within its footprint.
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has deemed 2.6 million homes in areas serviced by Charter as unsafe or unhealthy. The program seeks to aid 10% of the 250,000 low-income families in these communities.
Charter Our Community plans to help with home renovations, homeowner education initiatives and home health and safety support. Charter has partnered with the nonprofit organization, Rebuilding Together to assemble volunteers and communities to help improve the lives of low-income families.
"Through volunteering our time and support, we hope to inspire others to join our mission by learning more and getting involved in their communities,” said president and CEO of Charter, Tom Rutledge.
In the coming months, the Charter Our Community website will feature stories of those impacted, as well as homeowner resources, education and activities to maintain safe and healthy homes.
