Chronicle DTV, a digital network carrying documentary and reality fare, has
closed a $21 million acquisition deal for movies and programming from Warner
Bros. Domestic Cable Distribution, Turner Productions and Cable News Network,
according to officials.
The five-year deal includes 130 titles, mostly from the Warner Bros.
feature-film library -- movies such as Murder in Mississippi.
The pact also includes some CNN documentaries produced during the past two
years.
"This is Chronicle's first major output deal with a leading Hollywood studio
as we continue to build our subscriber base," Chronicle DTV president Rick Blume
said.
"Since we are differentiating ourselves by making feature-length
documentaries our main signature series, the Warner deal is a key ingredient in
helping us reach that goal," he added.
Chronicle DTV debuted in 2002 on OlympuSAT Inc., and it is now carried in
750,000 homes. It is offered on Adelphia Communications Corp. systems in markets
such as Los Angeles and Florida, as well as by members of the National Cable
Television Cooperative and by RCN Corp.
A cable-industry veteran, Blume was founder and president of Action Pay Per
View.
