Comcast Corp. said it has placed 10 students of color in the Emma L. Bowen Foundation for Minority Interests in Media’s multiyear internship program in jobs at the cable company, a bigger commitment than it has made in years past.
Comcast also named nine Bowen interns returning to positions this summer, some coming back for their fifth year with the MSO.
Interns earn valuable work experience and are paid salaries to help them afford college. Comcast also grants every student a $1,000 scholarship each year from the Comcast Foundation’s Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program.
More than 1,000 qualified students applied for the about 80 positions available for the Comcast Foundation's summer program in 2005.
The Bowen Foundation was established by the media industry to increase access to permanent job opportunities for minority students. The foundation's program is unusual in that students work for partner companies during summers and school breaks from the end of their junior year in high school until they graduate from college. During that five-year period, students learn various aspects of corporate operations and develop company-specific skills.
