Comcast is launching SportsNet New York HD – the TV home of the New York Mets and Jets – in Northern New Jersey this week, officials said Monday.

Starting Tuesday, Comcast will add SNY HD on channel 198 in its Union, Plainfield, Meadowlands, Jersey City and Northwest cable systems. SNY HD will launch Thursday for Comcast customers in the Monmouth, Ocean, Central, Toms River and Long Beach Island systems.

“From the first pitch to the last out, Mets’ fans will be able to enjoy their home team’s games in the clarity of high-definition television on SNY HD,” Keith Taub, vice president of Comcast Cable’s Northern New Jersey area, said in a statement.  “Comcast continues to be the leading HD provider in New Jersey, offering our customers the most HD viewing choices, crystal-clear picture quality and unparalleled control over their viewing experience.”

SNY, which launched in the spring of 2006, is owned by Sterling Entertainment Enterprises (affiliated with the Mets), Time Warner and Comcast, which also manages the network. In 2008, SNY will showcase more than 120 Mets telecasts – all produced in HD – as well as such ancillary fare as Mets Classics, Mets Weekly, Mets Hot Stove and Kids Clubhouse.

In addition to Comcast, SNY is carried in HD by its part owner, Time Warner Cable; Cablevision Systems Corp., which is the presenting sponsor of the Mets' enhanced telecasts; RCN; Dish Network; and DirecTV.

The network will also provide extensive coverage of the Jets through a number of shows such as Jets Post Game Live!,Jets Nation and a Jets draft special.  In addition to being the leader in Big East basketball and football coverage in the tri-state area, SNY features five live sports and entertainment programs produced in HD on a daily basis – providing viewers with compelling sports news coverage.
