Comcast Climbs to Level 3
Level 3 Communications Inc. will provide backbone support for Comcast Corp.’s “Comcast Digital Voice” voice-over-Internet-protocol service under terms of a deal announced Wednesday.
The vendor said its backbone support will allow the MSO’s IP-based calls to travel along a privately managed network, extending the capability of Comcast’s existing private, advanced broadband network and allowing Comcast Digital Voice to enjoy quality that may not be available from non-facilities-based VoIP-service providers.
“Level 3 continues to be an important partner and a company that we rely on to provide the infrastructure we need to offer reliable and innovative home-phone services to our customers,” Comcast Voice Services senior vice president of finance and administration Catherine Avgiris said in a prepared statement.
