Comcast Has About 200K Xfinity Mobile Subs: Report

Xfinity Mobile, Comcast’s new mobile service that leans on its WiFi network and an MVNO agreement with Verizon, has signed up about 200,000 subscribers since launching the product in May, Bloomberg reported, citing sources familiar with the situation.

Comcast isn’t commenting on Xfinity Mobile sub numbers, but an industry source told Multichannel News last month that the operator had indeed signed on about 200,000 so far.

Comcast completed the rollout of Xfinity Mobile across its footprint in August. Comcast is initially offering two Xfinity Mobile plans – unlimited data for $45 per month per line (for up to five lines), and a By the Gig option for $12 per GB of shared cellular data across all lines on an account each month.

Though Comcast’s sub figures for Xfinity Mobile are nowhere near what the nation’s mobile carriers have, the operator might be making a profit on the offering, Roger Entner, an analyst with Recon Analytics LLC, told Bloomberg.

"It's off to a great start…on the Verizon network with an MVNO,” Brian Roberts, Comcast’s chairman and CEO, said in September at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia Conference. “That relationship [with Verizon] is going well and the product works, and we are pleased with the early results.”
