Content Model Has To Change: Malone
New York -- Liberty Media chairman John Malone said over-the-top services are likely to change the content business model.
"The current model where a consumer has to buy $70 of video before they can buy a pay service has got to come apart," Malone said at the Liberty Media investors meeting here.
He added that consumers already have access to services like Netflix , which have changed the way they watch TV.
And more changes are on the way.
"I predict that model will change over time, in some cases with the cooperation of the distributor, particularly as you make the transition from linear to random access," Malone said. "The cable industry had an opportunity for TV Everywhere four, five, six years ago and unfortunately didn't accelerate the implementation of that."
