Countdown to ‘Percy Jackson’ Disney Plus Series Is On
Rick Riordan is writing and producing series based on his beloved novels
Percy Jackson and the Olympians, a series based on the hit book franchise, debuts on Disney Plus December 20. Based on the novels by Rick Riordan, Percy Jackson and the Olympians tells the story of Percy, a 12-year-old modern demigod, who is just coming to terms with his newfound powers when the sky god Zeus accuses him of stealing his master lightning bolt. With help from his friends Grover and Annabeth, Percy sets out to find it and restore order to Olympus.
Riordan is a writer and executive producer on the series. Jon Steinberg and Dan Shotz are the showrunners.
Walker Scobell plays Percy Jackson, Aryan Simhadri is Grover Underwood and Leah Sava Jeffries portrays Annabeth Chase. Guest stars include Lin-Manuel Miranda, Megan Mullally, Jason Mantzoukas and Jay Duplass.
Two episodes will be available on premiere day. James Bobin directed the pair.
Besides Riordan, Steinberg, Shotz and Bobin, the executive producers are Rebecca Riordan, The Gotham Group’s Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Bert Salke, The Gotham Group’s Jeremy Bell and D.J. Goldberg, Jim Rowe, Monica Owusu-Breen, Anders Engström and Jet Wilkinson.
20th Television produces the series.

There have been two Percy Jackson movies. Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief was directed by Chris Columbus and came out in 2010. Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters was directed by Thor Freudenthal and was released in 2013.
Riordan has sold over 180 million copies of his Percy Jackson and the Olympians novels, according to Disney Plus. Disney Hyperion is the franchise’s publisher.
