Cox Boosts VPN Availability

Cox Business Services has added virtual-private-network links to its service
lineup in 17 markets.

VPNs -- which provide dedicated, secure Internet connections to corporate
Intranets and other corporate users -- are aimed at remote and telecommuting
employees.

The VPNs can be accessed via a secure Cox Internet site after a software
download, and they will flow across dial-up, cable-modem or
digital-subscriber-line connections.

In the past, VPN services were only offered to teleworkers who connected from
within a Cox franchise area using a broadband Internet link. The new version
allows them to connect from any remote location and adds the option of doing so
via dial-up connections.

"Our enhanced VPN product creates a win-win situation for our business
customers in these expanded market areas," Cox Business vice president of
operations Bob Hattori said. "They are able to eliminate hardware requirements,
while expanding the range and capabilities of their mobile work force through
portability."
