Cox to Deploy Sorrento Gear

Sorrento Networks Inc. said
it has won a four-year contract to supplyCox Communications Inc.with optical-transport equipment across all of the MSO's systems. The deal is worth as much as $40 million, Sorrento said.

Cox plans to deploy Sorrento's "GigaMux" metropolitan dense-wave-division-multiplexing systems and its "Electronic Photonic Concentrators" throughout its cable properties. Initially, Cox will install Sorrento's equipment in areas of Virginia, California, Arizona and Louisiana, the companies said.

According to Sorrento, its GigaMux optical-transport product can multiply the capacity of new and existing fiber-optic networks by a factor of 64 times, transforming a single fiber into a multiprotocol transmission system.
