CuriosityStream Connects With Vizio’s Smart TVs
CuriosityStream, the fact-based subscription VOD service created by Discovery Channel founder John Hendricks, said it has broadened its reach to certain Vizio SmartCast-branded smart TV models.
CuriosityStream is initially rolling out its app to 2017 and 2017 Vizio SmartCast P-, M-, and E-Series Ultra HD models, which also support Chromecast built-in technology that enables users to cast content from the smartphone to the TV screen.
CuriosityStream’s stand-alone OTT offering starts at $2.99 per month for a “Basic” standard-def tier, while Standard (which supports HD) runs $5.99, and its Premium tier, with access to the service’s 4K library, runs $11.99 per month.
The SVOD service, launched in March 2015, hasn’t disclosed any subscriber figures.
The launch on Vizio continues CuriosityStream’s expansion onto various streaming platforms. Others include Roku, Apple TV, Xbox One consoles, Fire TV boxes, Chromecast, iOS and Android mobile devices, and smart TVs from Sony, LG Electronics and Samsung.
