Lisa Akhionbare began her professional life in cable, but not in operations. She was a professional break dancer for HBO’s Traveling Def-Comedy Show.
In 1999, after working as a senior audit associate with PricewaterhouseCoopers, Akhionbare joined Comcast. Starting as a senior accountant for the Atlantic division, she has held various positions including business operations manager for the Washington, D.C., system and senior financial analyst for the Washington and Virginia Region.
“When Lisa began at Comcast, she said she was willing to go wherever the action was,” said Scott Westerman, area vice president for Comcast’s Southwest region, where Akhionbare is now senior director of finance. She also served as the Southwest’s interim area vice president for four months.
“Every day is a challenge; and I wouldn’t have it any other way,” she said. “The joy of working in finance within a Comcast cable operation is that I not only have P&L responsibility, but also heavy involvement in the daily operational decisions that ensure that we exceed the service expectations of our customers and employees.”
