Discovery Communications Inc.’s Discovery Docs unit and Lions Gate Entertainment are teaming up on feature-length documentary Grizzly Man, the two companies said Monday.
Grizzly Man tells the story of amateur grizzly-bear expert Timothy Treadwell, exploring his life and his tragic death when he and his girlfriend were attacked and killed by a rogue grizzly in October 2003.
The documentary will be available for theatrical distribution next spring and will premiere on Discovery Channel during the fall of 2005.
“With a strong production partner like Lions Gate Entertainment and [director Werner Herzog’s] unique style, we believe Grizzly Man and Timothy Treadwell's compelling story will resonate with audiences in theatres and on television,” Discovery Channel executive vice president and general manager Jane Root said in a prepared statement.
