Investigation Discovery will reopen the 1960's murder case in the premiere ID Films: Confessions of the Boston Strangler, on Dec. 29 at 8 p.m, the network announced today.
The two-hour documentary looks back at the time between June 14, 1962 and January 4, 1964, where 13 women were murdered in their Boston apartments.
Albert DeSalvo was the first known serial killer caught for the crime with a recorded confession. However, decades later, DNA analysis showed he may not have been guilty and the killer may still be at large.
“More than 50 years after the killing spree that paralyzed a city, this film sheds light on a confession that continues to be shrouded in skepticism and debate,” said EVP and General Manager of Investigation Discovery, Kevin Bennett in a release. “By bringing modern day technology, new evidence is provided to one of the most notorious cases of a serial killer; shedding new light on the mystery and raising even more questions.”
The special reveals actual news footage, interviews with the victims' family members, as well as excerpts from DeSalvo's confession, his attorney and more.
