Heroes Channel Launches 'My Hero Is...' Contest
Discovery Communications’ American Heroes Channel is teaming up with the non-profit National Military Family Association, to launch the “My Hero Is…” contest, a national competition that provides an opportunity for viewers to nominate their own personal military hero and tell why they deserve the honor.
The contest launched nationally today (Sept. 22) at MyHeroIsContest.com, where entrants can submit a video (30-seconds or less) explaining who their military hero is and why. Entrants can nominate anyone associated with the United States military – whether it’s an active service member, a veteran or a member of a military family who serves by supporting their military member from the home front.
First place winners of the “My Hero Is…” contest will be featured in an interstitial on American Heroes Channel and will be flown to New York City to take part on the National Military Family Association float in the national Veterans Day parade on Nov. 11. In addition, students can submit their video on behalf of their local school. The school with the most number of entries will receive a Veterans Day assembly event hosted by the National Military Family Association, Discovery Education and American Heroes Channel, which will celebrate local veterans within their community.
“American Heroes Channel is proud to partner with such a prestigious organization as the National Military Family Association in an effort to highlight those men and women who truly make a difference each day for our country and its citizens,” said American Heroes Channel EVP and general manager Kevin Bennett in a statement. “We are very pleased to have this opportunity to publicly honor our heroes and share what they mean to us. The “My Hero Is…” contest is a way for people everywhere to showcase their military heroes and tell the stories of how they have made a difference in their lives.”
The National Military Family Association is a non-profit organization that provides families of the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Coast Guard, and Commissioned Corps of the USPHS and NOAA with information, works to get them the benefits they deserve, and offers programs that improve their lives.
“We are thrilled to partner with Discovery,” said NFMA executive director Joyce Raezer in a statement. “We look forward to working with them to reach out to families, connect them with resources and celebrate their strength.”
