ESPN, NBC Top Sports Emmy Nominations
ESPN garnered the most Sports Emmy nods overall, while NBC was second, bolstered by coverage of the most-nominated program, the Sochi Winter Olympics.
The worlwide leader earned 37 nominations for the 36th annual Sports Emmys, including seven for signature show, SportsCenter and six for its presentation of the 2014 FIFA World Cup from Brazil.
NBC was honored with 33 nominations, with the combined efforts of the Peacock, NBCSN, CNBC, USA, MSNBC and nbcolympics.com scoring 15 nods for their coverage of the XXII Winter Olympics.
MLB Network, ESPN2 and Fox finished third, fourth and fifth with 16, 15 and 14 nominations, respectively.
Premium services HBO and Showtime tallied 12 and nine apiece.
All told, there are190 nominees in 40 categories. The ceremony, which will also will be highlighted by George Bodenheimer, the former executive chairman at ESPN receiving the lifetime achievement award, is scheduled for May 5 at Jazz at Lincoln Center's Frederick P. Rose Hall.
