Ex-Cable Exec Pitches Porn Net
Daniel Beck, who spent his days in the mid-1980s screening local-access
channels' content for Time Warner Cable, has cut a deal to distribute his own
soft-core pornography channel on the MSO's flagship New York City system.
Pay-Per-View Adult Network (PAN) is looking to compete with Playboy
Television, Spice and New Frontier Media's Pleasure by pitching four-hour blocks
of movies and short adult segments for $6.95 apiece. The competition offers
two-hour blocks for the same price.
Time Warner spokeswoman Harriet Novet said PAN's pricing and packaging
structure -- plus Beck's prior relationship with the company -- helped to seal
the deal.
Beck is pitching PAN to other MSOs, but he may have a hard time wooing
Cablevision Systems Corp.
The MSO lost a carriage dispute to Beck in March after it refused to carry
his T&A local-access channel because it contained 800-number and 900-number
ads.
