Myron “Mike” Weinblatt, a cable veteran who oversaw the merger of Showtime and The Movie Channel into sister pay services, died in New York Aug. 18.
Weinblatt, 76, died after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease, according to his son, Richard.
Weinblatt started his media career at NBC in 1957, working his way through several departments and eventually becoming the first president of NBC Enterprises. After a 23-year career with the broadcaster, he moved into cable at Showtime in 1980, becoming its president. His four-year tenure included the period when Showtime acquired competitor TMC.
After his cable stint, he moved to syndication, presiding over Multimedia Entertainment Inc., which produced talk shows featuring Phil Donahue and Sally Jessy Raphael.
He is survived by his wife, Annie; two sons; and three grandchildren.
