Verizon Communications Inc. was awarded its second Maryland franchise Monday night.
The Bowie City Council voted to allow the regional Bell operating company to offer its Verizon FiOS TV fiber-optic-powered video service. Bowie joins Howard County on Verizon’s Maryland franchise list.
Under the 15-year agreement with the city of 55,000, Verizon is required to pay the community franchise fees based on its gross revenues on cable services.
FiOS TV launched in September in Keller, Texas, and it is currently available in parts of California, Florida, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, Texas and Virginia.
