FiOS Wins Another Long Island Franchise
Providing more competition for incumbent pay TV provider Cablevision, Verizon won a video franchise in South Floral Park, N.Y.
The telephone company won the franchise in the &?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />&st1:place w:st="on">Long Island&/st1:place> community on Aug. 2. Verizon said it has won video franchises in 52 &st1:place w:st="on">&st1:State w:st="on">new York&/st1:State>&/st1:place> communities.
Cablevision faces more competition to date than most other incumbent cable operators. Verizon has also won video franchises on Long Island in the villages of &st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Massapequa&/st1:PlaceName> &st1:PlaceType w:st="on">Park&/st1:PlaceType>, Cedarhurst, Laurel Hollow, Lynbrook, Mineola, East Rockaway, Farmingdale, Valley Stream, &st1:City w:st="on">Freeport&/st1:City>, &st1:place w:st="on">&st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Williston&/st1:PlaceName> &st1:PlaceType w:st="on">Park&/st1:PlaceType>&/st1:place> and others.
