First Pitch for ESPN’s ‘FlyCam’
ESPN will debut "FlyCam" during this week’s Sunday Night Baseball telecast, the network announced Wednesday.
The 8 p.m. (EST) contest features the San Francisco Giants and Barry Bonds visiting the San Diego Padres in their new stadium, PETCO Park.
FlyCam -- a camera mounted more than 20 feet above the stands in foul territory -- will travel down a designated base path (first- or third-base line, from behind home plate to the foul pole) and capture overhead views of the action. The remote-controlled camera can zoom, pan and tilt, ESPN said.
The network tested FlyCam during spring-training telecasts on ESPN and ESPN2, and it has been used during the X Games since 2002.
