Former Liberty Global Exec Takes Tech Helm Of CenturyLink
Aamir Hussain, an engineering exec late of Liberty Global, has been named executive vice president and chief technology officer of CenturyLink, a telco that has developed its own IPTV service under the Prism brand and is in the process of rolling out 1-Gig services in multiple markets.
Hussain most recently worked in the Netherlands as Liberty Global's managing director and chief technology officer for Europe. Broadband TV Newsreported in September that Hussain was leaving Liberty Global to return to the U.S. and join CenturyLink.
CenturyLink said Hussain (pictured, via Broadband TV News) and his team will be responsible for designing and delivering the company’s next-gen products, services and technologies. Hussain reports to CenturyLink president and CEO Glen Post. He started with the company on Monday, Oct. 27, and is based in Monroe, La., a CenturyLink official said.
"Our industry continues to evolve, and we remain focused on investing accordingly to expand and grow our company to meet our customers' needs,” Post said, in a statement. “As a global leader in network, managed hosting and cloud services, we must continue our evolution to IP-enabled network services, cloud infrastructure and hosted IT solutions. Aamir's extensive knowledge of our industry, as well as his understanding of demand for solutions brought about by innovation, will help us continue to provide value to our customers, shareholders and employees," Post said.
"CenturyLink is uniquely positioned to provide a great combination of network and cloud services to enterprise customers," Hussain added. "I am excited to join CenturyLink's management team and I'm looking forward to strengthening its position as a next generation IT services and cloud infrastructure provider."
Prior to Liberty Global, Hussain was SVP and CTO of Covad Communications, and is also late of TELUS, Qwest, BellSouth, Samsung and Motorola. He graduated from the University of South Florida with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, and earned a master's degree in electrical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
