Fox News, CNN Return to DirecTV Customers
DirecTV said that eight HD channels lost to their subscribers for two days returned to customers this afternoon.
According to DirecTV parent AT&T, those eight channels – BBC World News, CNN, Comedy Central, Fox News, Fusion, the Golf Channel, NBC Sports and Ovation – were lost due to a technical issue. The absence of the two top news channels – Fox News and CNN – just days before the presidential election caused considerable outrage in the conservative community. Customers were able to access the SD versions of the channels – with the exception of Fuse and BBC World News – through a work-around the company provided.
DirecTV didn’t explain a reason for the outage, although some customers have said it was caused by a glitch in customer HD boxes. In a statement, AT&T said the channels were back online early this afternoon, Central Time.
“We proactively reached out to customers via social and online channels to help ensure that they understood how to view the content,” AT&T said in a statement. The HD versions of these channels for most customers were back online early this afternoon CT. We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience.”
