fuboTV Passes 50,000 Subs
fuboTV, a “sports-first” virtual MVPD, said it now has more than 50,000 subscribers, after adding 15,205 subs in Q1 2015, a 47% increase versus the year-ago quarter.
fuboTV said had 47,392 subs as of March 31, 2016, and has since eclipsed the 50,000 mark. By comparison, Sling TV, the virtual MVPD operated by Dish Network, has more than 600,000 subs, according to February report from The Wall Street Journal(Dish no longer breaks out Sling TV subscriber figures).
Launched in January 2015, fuboTV said its subs base jumped by 43,651 (1,167%) on a year-over-year basis. fuboTV has raised $20.6 million so far, helped along by a $15 million Series B round led by Sky and 21st Century Fox.
Of recent note, fuboTV entered the TV Everywhere game by providing access to authenticated content from beIN Sports. The millennials-focused service starts at $9.99 per month and offers live sporting events via distribution deals with partners that also includes GolTV, Univision Deportes and Benfica TV. It also has distribution deals with Univision Communications, Pivot and Revolt Media & TV that added another 15 networks to fuboTV’s lineup.
fuboTV supports several platforms, including Web browsers, iOS and Android mobile devices, Amazon Fire TV, Roku players and Roku TVs, Google’s Chromecast adapter, and the new Apple TV.
