Garden Settles Rangers Sex Suit
Madison Square Garden, apparently learning its lesson from the outcome of the highly publicized Anucha Browne Sanders sexual harassment trial, has avoided what could have been an even more lurid court date by reaching a settlement agreement with a former New York Rangers cheerleader.
Courtney Prince, former captain of the New York Rangers City Skaters, filed her suit October 2004 against Cablevision Systems and the Garden, claiming she was fired from her job after complaining of unwanted sexual advances from executives. Cablevision owns both MSG and the Rangers hockey team.
While the Garden had denied Prince’s allegations, testimony during the three-week Sanders trial earlier this year brought up some potentially damaging evidence – that MSG management kept a Kama Sutra wish-list for the Rangers’ on-ice cheerleaders.
Sanders, who was awarded $11.6 million by a jury in October, settled with MSG earlier this month for $11.5 million. As part of that settlement, MSG agreed not to appeal the jury verdict.
Terms of the Prince settlement were not disclosed.
“We resolved this matter with no admission of wrongdoing on the part of any party, and I will have no further comment,” Prince’s attorney Kathleen Peratis said in a statement.
