Panasonic renewed its license with Gemstar-TV Guide International to incorporate Gemstar’s G-Guide interactive program guide into Panasonic’s digital-TV and video-recording devices for the Japanese market.
Financial terms of the agreement, announced Thursday, were not disclosed.
"This is a key license renewal, the first digital-IPG-technology-incorporation deal we have signed in Japan and, as such, it represents a landmark agreement for our Japanese business," Akitaka Nishimura, president of Gemstar Multimedia, said in a prepared statement.
Gemstar's G-Guide IPG, designed specifically for the Japanese market, is built directly into consumer-electronics devices and requires no additional subscription fee.
