Genband CTO Joins FCC Tech Council
Fred Kemmerer, the CTO of cable and telecom supplier Genband, has been appointed to the Federal Communications Commission’s Technological Advisory Council (TAC), a group that helps the agency identify important areas of innovation and develop informed technology policies supporting America’s competitiveness and job creation in the global economy.
Kemmerer’s appointment was announced during the council’s meeting on December 9, Genband said.
“This is an exciting time to work with the FCC, particularly as the pace of the transition from the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) to Internet Protocol (IP)-based communications solutions continues to accelerate,” Kemmerer said, in a statement.
Kemmerer was named CTO of Genband in 2008. He previously held executive tech slots at Lucent/Alcatel-Lucent, and holds a master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University and a bachelor’s degree from Pennsylvania State University, where he studied Electrical Engineering.
Milo Medin, VP of access services for Google; Theresa Hennesy, SVP-group technical advisor, national engieerng and technical opreations for Cocmast; and Michael Romano, SVP, policy, for the National Cable & Telecommunications, are among other members of the FCC TAC.
