GolTV HD Nets Time Warner Cable Launch In New York City
GolTV has scored for the second time with its high-definition service.
The independent, bilingual futbol programmer launched GolTV HD with Time Warner Cable in New York City. The HD service is now available to the MSO's subscribers on channel 469 in Manhattan, Staten Island and Queens, where GolTV was already available in standard-definition. Deal terms were not disclosed.
The Big Apple rollout marks the second launch for GolTV HD: DirecTV debuted the service on Aug. 4.
GolTV HD is the nation's first Spanish and English original network that is not offered as an over-the-air broadcast channel and is being delivered as a full simulcast of the GolTV standard-definition service. During its first year, GolTV HD will proffer soccer fans over 250 matches in pure HD, as well as highlight and magazine shows like La Liga 360, Hallo! Bundesliga and Bundesliga Magazine
"By launching GolTV HD, Time Warner Cable will be able to capitalize on the post-World Cup fútbol fever and enable their subscribers to experience soccer on a whole new level with a crystal, clear HD picture that will make them feel as if they are in the center of the action," said GolTV COO Rodrigo Lombello in a statement. "Our programming lineup presents soccer from every angle, capturing the sights, the sounds and the passion of live international match action that is sure to bring out the soccer fan in everyone."
GolTV presents coverage of the Bundesliga and La Liga, the premier leagues in Germany and Spain, with club rosters showcasing such World Cup standouts as Iker Casillas, Adres Ineista and David Villa from the El Rojo side that won the 2010 tournament, as well as Diego Forlan, Thomas Müeller, Miroslav Klose and Leo Messi. GolTV HD also covers the UEFA Europa League and Brazil's Campeonato Brasileiro and Campeonato Paulista, plus an array of top-tier international tournaments. The network also goes inside the action with an original programming lineup of highlight and news shows featuring GolTV's team of expert analysts and commentators.
