Looking to buttress its drama roster, HBO has ordered Terrence Winter's untitled rock 'n' roll project to series.
The hour-long drama, will star Bobby Cannavale as the founder and president of a major record label in the 1970s.
The endeavor matches Winter, who created and produced Boardwalk Empire, with Cannavale, who played Gyp Rosetti and Martin Scorsese, who directed the pilot of the prohibition-era drama.
Winter will work as show runner and executive producer. Scorsese, who has helmed classic concert films The Last Waltz about The Band's farewell performance, and Shine A Light, which captured the Rolling Stones at the Beacon Theater, will also executive produce, along with Mick Jagger (Mr Dynamite, the James Brown doc that bowed on HBO last month), Ricky Yorn, Victoria Pearman, Emma Tillinger Koskoff and George Mastras.
Additional cast members include Olivia Wilde, Ray Romano, Juno Temple, Andrew “Dice” Clay, Ato Essandoh, Max Casella and James Jagger, the son of the Stones' frontman.
Winter's work will join HBO's revamped series drama lineup that inlcudes hit Game of Thrones, The Leftovers, True Detective and the upcoming Westworld and Utopia, as True Blood, The Newsroom and Boardwalk have run their original courses.
