Karsch Connects As Special Advisor To Campus Movie Fest
Former Turner Classic Movies chief Tom Karsch has joined the board and will serve as a special advisor to Ideas United, which runs the world's largest student film festival.
Karsch will work primarily on Campus Movie Fest's marketing and partnerships, as well as bolstering its industry presence and television expansion, and augmenting its content strategy.
Ideas United creates experienced-based events, notably Campus MovieFest, the world's largest student film festival, for premier brands and organizations around the world. Since 2000, IU has provided over 350,000 students with everything they need to create short films and music through equipment and resources from AT&T, Apple, Panasonic, and The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Student winners have earned over $2 million in prizes, with their creations screening at Cannes, Paramount, in-flight on Virgin America, among other forums.
"Tom has a stellar track record of nurturing and expanding exciting media companies into even more meaningful brands and more successful businesses," said Ideas United co-founder and CEO David Romer."We are thrilled to have him on board and look forward to working closely with him as we begin our second decade of Campus MovieFest's growth as the premier outlet for the next generation of content creators."
As executive vice president and general manager from 1999-2007 and senior vice president from 1995-99, Karsch led day-to-day operations of Turner's vintage movie network, overseeing programming, production, marketing, on-air promotion, public relations, licensing and merchandising, home-video and publishing, TCM.com and technology platforms for broadband, video-on-demand and wireless.
Simultaneous to running TCM, Karsch served as executive vice president and general manager of regional sports and entertainment service Turner South from 2004 to 2006.
Karsch joined Turner in 1991 as the network's first director of sports marketing for TNT and in 1994 was promoted to vice president, sports marketing and network promotions.
Before joining Turner, worked in marketing positions for Sportschannel America, American Movie Classics and Showtime Networks, where he began his career as a manager of market research.
