Gemstar-TV Guide International Inc. and LSI Logic Corp. have signed a multiyear agreement.
Under terms of the deal, the two companies will develop a reference-design platform for interactive program guide TV Guide on Screen, which is built directly into consumer-electronics products.
The companies said the new reference platforms will combine TV Guide on Screen with LSI Logic’s “DoMiNo” single-chip DVD and HD digital-video-recorder processors, giving manufacturers a more efficient means of developing IPG-enabled digital-recording devices.
"As the demand for high-quality, cost-competitive digital recorders grows, it is extremely important to provide our CE-manufacturer partners with optimal, cost-effective solutions to integrate TV Guide on Screen into their products," TV Guide Consumer Electronics president Doug Macrae said in a prepared statement.
"Our collaboration with LSI Logic allows our CE partners to take advantage of cutting-edge technology, while ensuring that their products are brought to market quickly," he added.
