MacKinnon Named Top Time Warner Cable Lobbyist
Washington—Time Warner Cable, the second-largest U.S. based cable company that's also in the process of separating from its Time Warner Inc. parent, Monday named Gail MacKinnon as executive vice president and chief government relations officer.
MacKinnon, who is currently senior vice president of global public policy for Time Warner Inc., won't start in her new position for several more weeks.
“Gail has tremendous Washington experience from both the corporate and government perspectives and is the ideal person to lead Time Warner Cable’s public policy strategy,” Time Warner Cable president and CEO Glenn Britt said in a statement. “Her intimate knowledge of the company and the intricacies of the numerous legislative and regulatory issues affecting our business will be incredible assets.”
Time Warner Cable is the second-largest cable company with 13.3 million basic video subscribers. The company also has 7.9 million high-speed data and 3.1 million digital phone customers.
MacKinnon, a veteran of the public policy arena, has held senior government relations positions with the National Cable & Telecommunications Association, Viacom, CBS, Tele-Communications Inc. and Turner Broadcasting.
MacKinnon became a lobbyist after working for former U.S. Rep. Jack Fields (R-Texas), who was chairman on the House Subcommittee on Telecommunications when the Telecommunications Act of 1996 became law.
