Former Cox Communications Inc. executive vice president of operations Maggie Bellville has resurfaced at Incanta Inc., an Atlanta-based streaming provider founded in 1999 by two former Nortel Networks Inc. executives.
For the past two years, Incanta has been developing Perimeter Net, a streaming-engine technology cable operators and digital subscriber line providers can house in headends to deliver content to high-speed access users. For example, it has a 78,000-song library of licensed music it can deliver over its network at 128 kilobits per second.
"There is a lot of technology and a multitude of ideas in the market today," said Bellville, who resigned from Cox in January. "But I was impassioned by Incanta's solution-based model, which offers carriers a true platform for profitability."
She said Incanta plans to provide streaming hardware and software, as well as content-facilitation services.
"Cable operators can use this to get more content from providers," she said.
Incanta has been in trial with Knology Inc., the Southeastern overbuilder that counts about 106,000 video and more than 19,000 cable-modem subscribers.
Incanta's network-operations center is based in Atlanta. In Knology's case, it deploys Incanta servers and its Perimeter Net engine inside the headend. Incanta encodes the content, then sends it out in whatever format the home user requires. Bellville said the cable or DSL provider can brand Incanta content for themselves on their opening high-speed screen.
Bellville said Incanta plans to attend the Cable & Telecommunication Association for Marketing's Broadband Summit in October and the Western Show in November.
