'MCN’ Promotes Brown to Technology Editor
Denver— Karen L. Brown will become technology editor of Multichannel News on May 15, succeeding Matt Stump.
“Karen has a great nose for stories and a sharp, analytical mind for zeroing in on how technology works and what it means for companies competing to provide distinctive video, audio and Web services,’’ said editor-in-chief Tom Steinert-Threlkeld. “She also has extensive experience in everything from video-on-demand services to digital telephony.
“She has big shoes to fill, but she knows how to step forward and make an impact,’’ Steinert-Threlkeld said. “She’ll do a great job.’’
Brown started covering broadband technology in 1999 as associate technology editor for Cable World. In July 2000, she moved over to help launch the standalone Broadband Week magazine, a spin-off of Multichannel News. She went on to cover high-definition TV, video-on-demand, high-speed data services and cable telephony for MCN, before moving to a dual job at CED and Wireless Week magazines in 2003.
In December 2005, she returned to Multichannel News to assume the newly formed position of telecommunications editor, covering telephone companies and wireless carriers.
In her new position, she will be responsible for the weekly Technology pages and the monthly On Demand section of MCN, and, until a successor as Telecommunications Editor is hired, the IPTV Newsletter.
Stump, a six-year veteran at Multichannel News, is leaving the magazine to join One Touch Intelligence, as senior editor and analyst, covering cable communications. OTI is based in Denver; and its president, Robert Thalman is a former senior vice president of strategic marketing at Turner Broadcasting System Inc.
