National Cable & Telecommunications Association president Kyle McSlarrow’s salary was nearly $1.5 million last year.
When McSlarrow assumed the leadership position in March 2005, the cable trade group refused to disclose contract terms, including salary.
Since he jumped to the NCTA from the No. 2 job at the U.S. Department of Energy, McSlarrow was due for a big pay raise. The NCTA’s stonewalling ended Friday because as a tax-exempt organization, it is required by the Internal Revenue Service to permit public inspection of its operational finances, including the salary of its top officer.
The association reported that McSlarrow, 46, earned $1.49 million in 2005, making him one of the highest-paid trade-group heads in Washington, D.C.
The NCTA isn’t required to report McSlarrow’s 2006 salary until late next year, but it is certain to be a lot more than the $160,000 he was paid by the U.S. Treasury to oversee nuclear-weapons labs.
