Mexico ISP Maxcom Goes OTT With Yuzu
Mexico City-based Internet service provider Maxcom has launched Yuzu, a next-generation multi-channel over-the-top video service, using the aioTV platform.
Yuzu TV uses the aioTV platform to offer a mix of live linear cable TV channels, video on demand and Internet content in a unified experience across multiple devices, including the iPad, Android tablets, set-top boxes, PC- and Mac-based computers and smart phones, according to aioTV. The name is short for All-in-One TV. In the U.S., Hiawatha Broadband, a triple-play provider in southeastern Minnesota, has deployed aioTV services.
Maxcom launched the Yuzu service on Sept. 12 delivering live linear television channels, a catalogue of subscription VOD and on-demand TV series and kids' and sports episodes. Anyone with broadband access in Mexico can watch Yuzu channels and programs anywhere and anytime, via a PC, Mac, iPhone or Android device without limitation, for a flat monthly fee of 149 pesos or around $11, aioTV said.
"We are very excited to enable Maxcom to launch this groundbreaking service to the market. The aioTV platform provides a relevant user video experience and video enablement on the devices that people want. With the success that Maxcom has had with their broadband service in Mexico, we look forward to enabling their OTT video service throughout Mexico," Mike Earle, CEO of aioTV, said in a release.
"We looked at a number of video platforms and found aioTV to be the only platform to deliver a next-generation video service with the quality and experience our customers expect and the economics we needed to deliver a compelling offer," Gabriel Cejudo, marketing VP of Maxcom, said in the release.
The Yuzu service is available across all of Mexico and can be found at www.yuzu.com.mx
