Sanford Bernstein cable and satellite analyst Craig Moffett, one of the top analysts in the media space, is leaving the firm after about a decade, the analyst confirmed this evening.
Moffett, known for his detailed analysis and his quick wit, said Jan. 31 was his last day at the firm. He declined further comment.
According to people familiar with the firm, Moffett is starting his own boutique research firm and will continue to focus on the media space. Those sources said that a handful of sales people at Bernstein are following Moffett to his new business.
Those same sources said because of Securities laws, the analyst may have to wait as long as 90 days before he can begin issuing research at his new shop.
