More Nets to Air Sept. 11 PSA
Nearly three-dozen additional cable programmers have come on board and plan
to participate in a Sept. 11 tribute, agreeing to simultaneously air a special
public-service announcement that evening, officials said Thursday.
The National Cable & Telecommunications Association, which commissioned
the PSA, also said there will be a Spanish-language version of it available for
cable networks and MSOs to run.
Lifetime Television, which is creating the spot for the cable industry, and
the Walter Kaitz Foundation have collaborated to translate the spot's
English-language text to Spanish.
To commemorate last year's terrorist attacks, the PSA will run as a roadblock
simultaneously across participating cable networks at 8 p.m. EST Sept. 11.
The new programmers that have agreed to run the PSA are A&E Network,
Access Television Network, All News Channel, Black Entertainment Television, BET
Gospel, BET Hip Hop, BET on Jazz, Biography Channel, Bloomberg Television,
Comcast SportsNet, Discovery en Español, Fox Movie Channel, Fox Sports Digital,
Fox Sports Regional Networks, Fox Sports World, Fox Sports World en Español, FX,
G4, The Golf Channel, GoodLife TV Network, Hallmark Channel, The History
Channel, History Channel International, National Geographic Channel, New England
Sports Network, Outdoor Life Network, Oxygen, SoapNet, Speed Channel, TechTV, TV
Guide Channel, USA Network, WGN Superstation and Yankees Entertainment &
Sports Network.
Last week, another three-dozen cable programmers said they would run the PSA,
so more than 60 are currently on board with the plan.
The NCTA is also urging cable networks to air the PSA at 8 p.m. PST for
viewers in the West.
